Michael Kugelman is the Director of the South Asia Institute at the Wilson Center and a columnist for Foreign Policy, where he authors the South Asia Brief, a weekly newsletter on the region. Since 2007, he has led the Wilson Center’s research and programming on South Asia, with a focus on Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, and U.S. relations with each. His recent work explores shifting geopolitics in South Asia, U.S.-India technology cooperation, the future of U.S.-Pakistan ties, and strategic lessons from the U.S. war in Afghanistan. Mr. Kugelman is a frequent commentator in major international media, including The New York Times, BBC, CNN, and NPR, and has authored numerous publications, including edited volumes on Pakistan’s energy crisis and urbanization. He holds an M.A. in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University and a B.A. from American University’s School of International Service.
